Blue Range post-Christmas visit
A total of eleven current and potential members made the trip up to our Club hut on a sunny
day, it being the first time there for some. Being post-Christmas it was not fast with a number
of rest stops along the way.
At the unofficial “halfway” point the mistletoe was in flower, great to see it surviving, but a bit
disappointing in size compared to those that some had seen on our Lake Ohau trip.
There were a few birds around, kereru being quite frequently heard, if not seen. Near the
“lookout rock” we heard some long-tailed cuckoo calling, a few lucky ones actually saw
them.
Arriving at the hut signalled time for lunch as everyone brought out their contributions to a
shared meal, and very good it was too.
Following lunch it was time for a quick hut tidy, not much needed doing, and an inventory
check of the gear there. Then it was time for the return trip, back to the very full campground.
Those on the trip: Shona & Peter, Nathan, Liz, David B, Gail, Conrad, Michelle, Carlie,
Shane & Nigel. Plus Boots.
