Tinui ANZAC Walk

ANZAC Tinui April 20th 2025.

Deciding to take advantage of a gloriously sunny day a small group of us traveled out to Tinui, a small settlement on the way out to Castle point to visit the historic Anzac Cross located on top of the Tinui Taipo.

After Cyclone Gabrielle in early 2023 sections of the track had been eroded and some of the vegetation had been sweep away but we still found the track to be manageable almost the entire way up though I wouldn't want to risk it right after heavy downpour.

We made good progress along the track and in some of the steeper section near the top there is an improvised guide rope to give you some assistance if it's needed.

Once you reach the top you find a small shelter with historical information and a very nice area to stop off and rest before or after you push on towards the trig and the cross with it's impressive view of the village below.

After making our way safely back to the carpark we briefly stopped off at the Tinui Bar and Cafe for some drinks and something to cool us down before traveling back into town.

I'd like to thank Josh, Jenny and Geraldine for joining me on this trip and Brenda and Christine for the use of their vehicles.
