Gentle Annie Saddle Trip Report – Sunday 1 February 2026
Participants: Margaret, Nigel & Nathan.
After checking the weather, it was really nice to know the day before that the tramp will definitely go ahead rather than so often the case of keeping track of changing weather and weather forecasts and not sure if it would go ahead or not.
We set off from Holdsworth carpark about 9am and headed up to the Holdsworth lookout. There were a few trees down since our last visit, especially in the stream at the bottom of the track, but
the track was still accessible. It was a warm day so we had a few rest stops on the way up and then morning tea at the lookout. There was a great view of the tops from here today with brilliant blue
sky and Powell and Jumbo huts both visible.
Then we set off with Nigel checking the eight traps along this section and finding a few dead pests.
Along the way a few fallen trees were removed from the track for which Nigel’s saw came in handy.
We had a short break at Gentle Annie saddle before heading uphill again to the Carrington Ridge where we found a nice shady spot for lunch.
After lunch we continued uphill to point 801 and then it was downhill all the way back to the carpark. Once we were back on the Gentle Annie track Nigel checked the traps as we went down.
The trip took about six hours including our stops, tree felling, checking of traps and chatting with people we knew along the way. A most enjoyable day out in the amazing bush we have so close to
town.
